What Is Blepharoplasty? A Rejuvenating Eyelid Surgery

/

As you age, your skin begins to lose its elasticity leaving you with wrinkles, sagging, and puffiness around your face. Your eyelids are no exception. Excess skin and fat around the eyelids can make your eyes look tired and even affect your vision. Blepharoplasty is a form of plastic surgery that eases these signs of aging to give your eyes a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Types of Blepharoplasty Surgeries

Mature woman with saggy upper eyelid

Upper Eyelid

A sagging upper eyelid can age your appearance and affect your vision. During an upper eyelid blepharoplasty, one of our doctors will make an incision along your natural crease and remove excess tissue. Tightening the skin will prevent your eyelid from drooping into your field of vision and rejuvenate your appearance.

Puffy lower eyelid

Lower Eyelid

Puffy bags under your eyes can make you look tired. During a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, one of our doctors will make an incision just below your lash line to remove excess tissue, tighten the skin, and improve the natural contours. This surgical step gives your eyes a more alert and youthful appearance.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

Look Younger Longer

If you are looking for age-defying results that last, then non-invasive treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic might not be enough. Eyelid surgery not only offers dramatic improvements, but the benefits typically last for years, not months. Blepharoplasty patients typically do not need another treatment for at least a decade.

Improve Your Vision

A sagging upper eyelid and excessive puffiness can interfere with your vision, especially your peripheral vision. Blepharoplasty surgery removes excess tissue from your upper and lower eyelids and tightens the remaining skin so you can see better.

Restore Your Confidence

The way we view our appearance affects the way we present ourselves to the world. If you are feeling like your eyes make you look tired, haggard, or older than you are, that may affect your confidence and how you interact with people around you. Blepharoplasty surgery can rejuvenate your eyes and restore your confidence.

Beautiful Results Provided in Total Comfort Request a Consultation to Get Started

Even if you're excited to refresh your appearance with blepharoplasty, the thought of having surgery performed on your eyelids may make you feel a bit nervous. This is completely understandable, but know that you have nothing to fear when you work with our team in Sidney. You will receive general anesthesia for your surgical procedure to ensure your total comfort.

When the effects of the anesthesia wear off, you'll have no memory of the procedure, and a friend or loved one can drive you home after a very short recovery period in our office.

If you have questions about the other steps we can take to keep you comfortable while we rejuvenate your eyelids, please request a consultation today. You can contact us online or call:

"Never been treated with such VIP service." Our Patients Are Our Priority

"I contacted my regular eye doc after having repeated issues with the same eye and he referred me over to Doctor Schemmel. He did an amazing job taking time after hours to fix my issue right away. Unreal Service! Highly Recommend!" Larry Middaugh

What To Expect During the Blepharoplasty Procedure

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure typically completed in just one to two hours. Each patient needs to have someone with them who can drive them to and from the medical center. We have offices in Sidney, Bellefontaine, Celina, and Troy, which makes care convenient for people throughout West Central Ohio.
Blepharoplasty is a highly-customized plastic surgery tailored to your unique needs.

Day of Procedure

Blepharoplasty is a highly-customized plastic surgery tailored to your unique needs.

Anesthesia

You will be given general anesthesia so you can be asleep and comfortable throughout the surgery.

Incisions

Each incision will be made in the most discreet way possible so that scars are well-hidden. For the upper eyelid, the incision will be along your natural crease line. For the lower eyelid, the incision will be along the lash line.

Rejuvenation

Once the incisions have been made, your doctor will remove excess fat and skin. Then they will tighten and smooth the remaining skin to give your eyes a reinvigorated and more youthful appearance.

Recovery

Most patients can go home to recover immediately following their surgery. Your doctor will give you a list of instructions on things to do to help prevent bruising, swelling, or other side effects of surgery. Following these instructions will ensure the quickest and safest recovery and avoid complications.

Have Questions?

Want to Enhance Your Results? Consider a Brow Lift

Surgically enhancing your eyelids can improve your vision and help you appear more youthful and alert, but if you're dissatisfied with the areas surrounding your eyelids, you may not be able to enjoy your results to the fullest. Combining eyelid surgery with a brow lift can rejuvenate the entirety of your upper face. We can connect you with a plastic surgeon in the Sidney area to discuss your options.

Will Insurance Cover Eyelid Surgery?

Your insurance provider may cover blepharoplasty if the excess skin on your eyelids significantly obstructs your field of vision. Keep in mind that upper lid blepharoplasty is more commonly covered than lower lid surgery. Additionally, if your upper lid or lower lid surgery is for purely cosmetic purposes, it won't be covered.

We accept most insurance plans, and a member of our team in Sidney will be glad to help you determine whether your surgery is covered, and file a claim on your behalf.

If you are uninsured, receiving purely cosmetic surgery, or have high out-of-pocket costs, financing can help. We accept several forms of financing that allow you to split the cost of your surgical procedure into affordable monthly payments.
